Does Your Work Elevate Or Erode Your Mental Health?

Happy World Mental Health Day!

Many of us think of our work and career goals as a reflection of ourselves and our values. Yet many also experience a traumatizing disconnect between the expectations and operations of our workplace, and our good conscience, ethics and sense of self-respect.

When our workplace deprives us of our wellbeing, it causes great harm to us, our families, our communities, and the very work we desire to do well at.

Have you ever experienced situations at work that impel you to compromise your principles? I sure have, and my decision to stand up for the respectful interaction and integrity of mission I believed in delivered unsavory consequences. I learned it’s crucial to have guidelines for a healthy, courteous and uplifting work environment in place.

When people encounter impudent patterns and retribution at work, it erodes our sense of safety and stability, increases stress, diminishes our emotional and physical health, and impacts our productivity and ability to make a difference.

That’s why improving mental health awareness and support at work is what today is all about!

At Kula for Karma, we believe every human being deserves the space, tools and resources to understand, manage and improve their mental health.

Prioritizing mental health and fostering the personal and collective wholeness and justice that allows people to thrive in the workplace is a human right we are fighting for via Kula’s mission and programs…and in every way and every space that we show up in the world.

In the spirit of that vision, we launched Kula Community Vision Stories, where you can listen to amazing human beings reveal why they believe mental health care is a human right.

Check them out to get inspired, and send us your own video telling the world why mental health is your human right! You can post and tag us @KulaforKarma in your video, or email them to me at Jenni@KulaforKarma.org to join our community.

And don’t forget to register for our Healing on the Hudson community self-care event on the river in Nyack, NY, raising funds to provide empowering mindfulness-based mental healthcare to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking.

Here’s to your mental health – and our courage to care for it – today and every day!
