In our ongoing celebration of Pride and the transformative power of community, we’re excited to introduce the next story in our series: the journey of another LGBTQ+ member of the Kula For Karma community, Lauren Puzen. Lauren is a Program Development Director, leading the launch of our new program at Rockland Pride Center.

For many in the LGBTQ+ community, finding spaces of acceptance and belonging can be life-changing. Lauren’s story is a testament to how inclusive yoga spaces and mindful practices encourage self-acceptance and resilience.

Watch the included video as our teacher shares her reflections and demonstrates Tadasana, Mountain Pose—a posture that symbolizes strength, stability, and calm in mind and body.

Lauren Puzen:

Hi, I'm Lauren Puzen. I live in New York with my wife and two sons. As a part of the LGBTQIA+ community I have naturally struggled with my identity in community with others, and within myself, sometimes feeling the need to conform to be accepted by others. The practices of yoga and meditation have been a strong-hold in my life, allowing me to connect my physical body with my mind and my spirit. Whenever I'm in a stressful time I know I need to get back on my mat to work it out. The physical movement of my body, feeling its strength reminds me of how strong I can be in my mind and in my heart to face the day-to-day challenges of being human, and a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Practicing in community with others brings me greater connection with those around me, helping me feel seen for who I am. I love to practice in the yoga spaces where the instructors give me the permission to be my own teacher. To be my own guide in my practice, listening to how my body feels and what I need during my practice. These types of judgement free zones have liberated me to find my true self and live into that, on and off the mat.
