Volunteer of the Month,
Karen

We recently received
the following letter:

"Hi Penny I hope all is well.

Yesterday your Kula volunteer Karen was able to provide a special experience for one of our patients.

Michael is a 16 year old boy who is very resistant to being supported by others. With some trepidation he agreed to Reiki and it was a pivotal experience for him. He has been hospitalized for nearly 3 months non stop and has been having pretty consistent fevers for some time now. As Karen preformed the Reiki I was able to see and feel a lightness come over him I haven’t seen in some time. His eyes were closed and smiled. His dad was also able to see this change in his son. It was very moving. Also his fevers have abated.

He is very open to continuing to see Karen on Tuesdays. However, this boy who never asks for support has asked if Karen could come see him again this week.

I wanted to reach out to you first to ask if Kula would be willing to send Karen for some additional sessions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Elizabeth"

Kula reaches out to Boulder Trauma and Addiction Therapists

Kula's Yoga For Trauma and Addiction Training was presented for Healthcare Professionals at the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Non-Violence Center in Boulder, Colorado. The training consisted of discussion about why yoga works for victims of trauma and recovering addcits, along with a gentle chair yoga class. "We would stop during the class and experience how our body felt, doing long stretches with consistent breathwork, stopping for short guided meditations. I was so delighted with the feedback that I got from this training," said Nancy Candea, Kula's Training Director. Kula is looking forward to bring this training to healthcare professionals in the NJ and NY area.

Boulder Yoga Teachers love Kula's Yoga for Trauma and Addiction Training

On February 18th twelve yoga teachers met a Richard Freeman's yoga studio in Boulder, Colorado to participate in Kula's Yoga for Trauma and Addiction Training. As with all our trainings, we had teachers form a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of goals to use the information that that were learning. The group plans to continue their work, including working in the women's shelter women's transitional outreach center and at the Boulder County Jail.
