Publication: Your Morris.com
Number of Views: To be confirmed.
Date: July 2011
Founded in 2007, Kula for Karma, a non-profit organization
focused on offering therapeutic yoga within the healthcare
milieu, is pleased to announce the appointment of Glen
Rock, Bergen County resident Claire Whittleston as part-time
Director of PR/Media Relations.
Claire will work to build stronger awareness among consumers and businesses, communicating mindfulness meditation and the selfless service of passionate volunteers who work to relieve suffering and to promote wellness among society's most vulnerable populations—those who have been challenged by illness, disabilities, violence and other traumas.
One of her responsibilities is to gain the attention of businesses and individuals who have the resources to support Kula for Karma's vision. "I am excited to work with Kula for Karma realizing that I can turn my passion into action, touching other people's lives through the power of communication," Claire highlights.
Originally from Yorkshire in England, Claire brings with her over eight years of international PR/Marketing experience gained while living and working in England, Singapore and most recently, the U.S.A. She has worked with clients within the business to business, consumer, trade, arts and non-profit sectors.
Geri Topfer, Founder and President says, "Claire has strong experience in managing key messages and implementing publicity strategies through both traditional and digital media that will be critical in facilitating Kula for Karma growth".
As an 11 year practicing yogi, Whittleston's opportunity came about from attending a recent yoga retreat with her local studio, Naturally Yoga based in Glen Rock. "I laid my mat next to Geri Topfer. We got talking about this amazing organization that touches so many lives. From then on it was a natural progression for me to get more involved with Kula for Karma," said Whittleston.
Geri continued, "We have planted many seeds, which are in full bloom. For example, changing the face of healthcare at The John Theurer Cancer Center, where oncologists are prescribing yoga five days a week, along with chemotherapy and radiation. Our latest announcement could potentially change the face of healthcare - we are excited about taking our communications strategy to the next level. We are confident that Claire is the perfect person for this position."

Lynn was awarded the 2010 Kula Angel Award for her work in supporting Kula for Kama's first weekly yoga/meditation program in the Pediatric Oncology/Pediatric Intensive Care Units at HUMC. NACHRI is the foremost organization in the nation for children's hospitals. New York magazine ranked HUMC as a Best Hospital for Pediatrics, as well as being one of the Top 10 Overall Best Hospitals. In fact, HUMC is the only New Jersey hospital to receive a ranking on the Overall Best Hospitals list.

KULA FOR KARMA AND RONALD MCDONALD CAMP PARTNER TO BENEFIT CHILDREN AND TEENS WITH CANCER
Join Kitty Blincoe, RYT, Kula for Karma, and Ronald McDonald Camp on June 12th from 9 AM-11:30 AM on Pier A in Hoboken for a yoga-thon fundraiser. This day has been designated as "Yoga for Children and Teens with Cancer". All funds raised will be used by the two non-profit organizations to benefit these children by integrating yoga into their lives. There will be 5 continuous 30-minute sessions of yoga guided by local yoga teachers. Experience being one with nature and neighbors as you practice yoga under the big blue sky along the Hudson River overlooking the New York City skyline.
Kitty Blincoe, RYT, was inspired last summer to create this fundraiser after volunteering at Ronald McDonald Camp through her association with Kula for Karma. She witnessed firsthand how much the camp experience meant to each of the children suffering from cancer. Practicing yoga only several times a week transformed the children's lives by lifting their spirits and decreasing their pain and discomfort. At Ronald McDonald Camp, campers have the opportunity to laugh, have fun, and enjoy being kids. They can experience new activities and acquire new skills in a supporting, nurturing environment.
Kula for Karma offers yoga, nutritional and therapeutic support services to populations who are challenged by life's difficult circumstances, such as illness, abuse and addiction. Their programs, which include offering free yoga to children and teens with cancer, provide the recipients with much needed emotional, physical and spiritual benefits.
Registration for the yoga-thon is $18 per individual or $45 per team for one or all of the classes. Registration fees are waived if a participant's fundraising goal of $400 is met. To pre-register, download pledge forms or make a donation go to: www.kulaforkarma.org and click on "Events". TOGETHER WE CAN BRIGHTEN A CHILD'S DAY.
