Kula for Karma teaches yoga To the Special Olympic  athletes

Right in the middle of the hottest days of our summer, Kula for Karma was privileged to be able to teach yoga for the Special Olympics athletes at the Special Olympics Sports complex in Lawrenceville, NJ. Nancy Candea, Certified Yoga Therapist, with assistance by Nicholas Bellinson, a yoga teacher trainer from Yoga Impact's Princeton University's 240YTT, enjoyed some yoga with about 85 athletes and volunteers. Worn out from their circuit training in the 90 degree, over the top humidity weather, yoga was a welcome respite for everyone.

Nancy Candea describes the day, "Some of the delightful moments were watching the youngest athletes roll up in their mats to help them experience the quiet of savasana, watching Nicholas spend time doing stretches with a young man in a wheel chair, who would have otherwise just watched the class, enjoying the smiles when we supported each other's balance poses by holding hand in our circle."

She further explains, "I have been teaching for 16 year now. I have taught in jails, shelters, with at-risk youth and owned a yoga studio, conducted retreats and trainings. These were some of the most challenging classes that I have ever taught! I am so grateful for the opportunity that Kula for Karma opened up for me this summer. I am sure that the New Jersey Special Olympics will be happy to add yoga into any of their programs."
