Diego Coira, MD

Dr. Diego Coira is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Medical Director of Integrative Medicine and Director of The Debra Simon Center for Integrated Behavioral Health and Wellness at Hackensack University Medical Center. He is board certified in both Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. Dr. Coira is also certified in Integrative Health Administration by the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and was invited to speak at the 2014 national conference sponsored by the Academy in San Diego, California. Dr. Coira was named to the 2014 & 2015 list of Best New York Doctors by New York Magazine as well as being selected to the Castle Conelly's list of 2014, 2015 & 2016 top doctors in psychiatry. Dr. Coira was also named as a top doctor in psychiatry by NJ Magazine in 2014 & 2015. He is also the recipient of the 2002 Harvey J. Shwed Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence from New Jersey Medical School and the Institute for Nursing 2009 APPLE Award acknowledging Physician Partners Liaison Excellence. Dr. Coira and his team successfully integrated the acute care inpatient psychiatric unit into a medical psychiatric unit over nine years ago and he presented the outcomes at The 2013 World Psychiatric Association Meeting in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Coira and his team were also invited to present a workshop about the integration of medicine and psychiatry in the 2015 World Congress of Psychosomatic Medicine in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2014 he expanded the concept of integrative services to the outpatient Behavioral Health Division in our newly designed Wellness Center.
