January's volunteer of the month is Nitya Martino!
Nitya Martino, Founder of Art & Soul, is a Stress & Anxiety Solutions Expert, Health & Wellness Coach, Certified Structural and Holistic Yoga Therapist, Creativity Counselor, RYT-500. She facilitates individualized private and group programs through her private practice to achieve Health Healing & Wellness, and she has been a Yoga Therapist for The Valley Hospital since 2004. Here's what she has to say about her work with Kula:
I have been involved with Kula since their inception, watching their diversity and vision grow. In 2007 I began teaching this population of Children with Autism and on the Spectrum. I have an adult niece with severe Cerebral Palsy and so to me teaching special needs is seamless and natural. Yoga is a most profound anxiety solution and a blessing. They are intuitive and learn on a different level, much more subtle and profound which is why yoga therapy makes the difference. They get it.
The joy I get from their faces and how much fun we have is one of the biggest blessings of my life. In the past 8-plus years, I have seen these children grow and become so connected and present when it comes to their yoga class. The teachers are so supportive and share with me the yoga-isms the kids come up with when I am not there, proving it truly makes a huge positive connection on the mind and energy levels. The physical practice is just a means to this. I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love helping people in all walks of life as we are all equal and deserve love, compassion and joy.
