Advanced Teacher Training


Kula for Karma teachers are required to have a 200-hr yoga teacher certification. Additionally, teachers must attend and complete a Kula for Karma Advanced training  or have completed an advanced training for trauma and addiction, cardiac patients, cancer patients, or disordered eating, approved by Kula's Medical Advisory Board 

Practicum includes:
Lesson plan development, mentoring, observing, & teaching
CEUs are available

Kula for Karma Advanced Teacher Training

Yoga for Trauma & Addiction

Training provides 20 hours of CEU's with 16 contact hours

In this training, we explore:

  • The practice of working with underserved populations who deal with addiction issues and understand how yoga helps heal and can be used as a tool to develop impulse control
  • Integrating NBT into a yoga class and creating meditations that reinforce positive messaging
  • The psychotherapeutic treatment of trauma related disorders and how yoga fits into an integrative treatment approach
  • The science behind the effects of yoga on the nervous system
  • The special skills needed when teaching in rehab centers working with Adult and Adolescent Substance abusers.
  • How yoga empowers individuals to live with more personal awareness of internal peacefulness.
  • Specific practices designed to be helpful for trauma-affected individuals, including a detailed treatment manual
  • How to prepare and deliver effective lesson plans using asana, breath work and meditation techniques to meet the needs of clients who have experienced trauma and addiction

Dates: Friday Night: November 3rd: 5-9 PM and Saturday November 4th: 9-5 @ Powerflow-yoga Glen Rock

 Yoga for Positive Body Image: A Yogic Approach to Eating and Body Image Issues:

In this training we explore:

  • Eating Disorder Diagnoses and Treatment
  • The Therapeutic Benefits of Yoga
  • Applying yoga philosophy to disordered eating and body image
  • Incorporating  Asana, Pranayama, and  & Meditation into yoga teaching methods for inpatient, outpatient, and general populations

Dates: September 23-24

Faculty: Shari Becker, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist, RYT-200  and Kirsten Adelia Collins, E-RYT, MBA clinical social worker in the field of eating disorders at The Beacon Program in NYC.

 

Investment: $375 for Prema Yoga Institute Teachers and Kula Teachers; $425 for all others


Adult Cardiology

Training Objectives

  • Understand cardiac conditions; what are they and how do they affect the mind and body?
  • Understand cardiac diagnostics, procedures and risk-factors 
  • Prepare teachers to teach a gentle, clinically informed yoga class to those suffering from a range of cardiac diagnoses

Requirements

  • Attendees must be 200 hour certified
  • Volunteer packet, proof of insurance, copy of 200-hour certification

When: Sunday December 10th 11-6 and Sunday December 17th 11-6

Adult Oncology

Training Objectives

  • Understand cancer; what is it and how does it affect the mind and body?
  • Understand cancer diagnostics, procedures and risk-factors 
  • Prepare teachers to teach a gentle, clinically informed yoga class to those suffering from a range of cancer diagnoses

Requirements

  • Attendees must be 200 hour certified
  • Volunteer packet, proof of insurance, copy of 200-hour certification

When: Sunday October 29th 11-6 and Sunday November 5th 11-6

Movement Disorders

Training Objectives

  • Understand Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease; what are they and how do they affect the mind and body?
  • Understand movement disorder diagnostics, procedures and risk-factors 
  • Prepare teachers to teach a gentle, clinically informed yoga class to those suffering from MS and Parkinson’s

Requirements

  • Attendees must be 200 hour certified
  • Volunteer packet, proof of insurance, copy of 200-hour certification
